Sustainability sits at the heart of NSFP’s environmental philosophy with all NSFP products sourced from only sustainably harvested, regrowth and plantation PEFC Certified timber.

All NSFP sites have 100% PEFC Chain of Custody certification.

NSFP was one of the first companies within the timber industry to support environmentally responsible and sustainable harvesting of native and plantation resource with PEFC certification.

NSFP leads the way in product innovation, investing heavily in research and development of new products that value-add to every piece of sawn timber. NSFP was the first group to value-add its entire hardwood production, believing that to craft a sustainable product of high-value from our native and plantation resources not only fulfills a demand from discerning customers but demonstrates respect for the area in which the timber was harvested.

The pellet processing facility at NSFP’s Dry Mill in northern Tasmania, takes waste from the milling process and converts it into highly valuable wood pellets used for cooking and heating resulting in zero waste from the mills production. Similarly, timber shorts, which are traditionally a by-product of the milling process are also captured and are transformed into beautiful and functional timber panels and sold across Australia under the TimberBuild brand. 

NSFP was humbled to be awarded the EPA Sustainability Award for Tasmania in 2020. NSFP has been recognised for its investment in a state-of-the-art wood pellet production facility, which recovers over 3,000 tonnes annually of sawdust and off-cuts traditionally destined for landfill and transforms them into high-value pellets for the consumer heating market.

NSFP’s commitment to sustainability, waste reduction, innovation and a collaborative approach to working with native forest stakeholders has helped NSFP become one of the leaders in sustainable forestry practices within Tasmania.

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organisation which promotes sustainable forest management through independent third party certification. It is considered the certification system of choice for small forest owners.

Responsible Wood pioneered the development of certification standards for wood and wood products sourced from sustainably managed forests in Australia. Standards provide guidance and accountability for forest managers, manufacturers and suppliers.
